Laugh Yourself Happy

We’ve all heard the saying “laughter is the best medicine’ but how many of us actually let go and have a good old laugh that makes our insides hurt because we’ve laughed so much?

It has been well documented in numerous studies that laughter can boost our immune system through ‘decreasing stress hormones’ and ‘increasing immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies’ but laughter can also help relieve stress and tension in our whole body.

Laughter not only relaxes us but it helps us stay in the moment as we’re laughing at something that is happening in the here and now, it can also be a positive emotion to look back on. How often has the thought of something that made you laugh come back to your mind days or even months after the event but still brings a smile to your face and takes you back to that happy moment and how it made you feel.

Laughter Yoga first hit the headlines in the mid-nineties and has been gaining popularity ever since. Madan Kataria created the Laughter Movement that started with a small group of people sitting in a park in Mumbai laughing with each other, and now there are laughter clubs all over the world and there is even a World Laughter Day that takes place on the first Sunday in May every year.

Laughter not only makes us feel better but it helps us connect with others whether its our loved ones or people we don’t even know so make time for fun and don’t be afraid to laugh out loud or even laugh at yourself.
