Mindful Mornings

A mindful morning always starts the night before and for a good start to the new day it’s essential to get some rest and good quality sleep.

Trying to avoid working after dinner if you’re working from home, staying up late and drinking alcohol can all help aid a good night’s sleep as can putting the phone and other digital devices away at least an hour before you hit the hay.

I’ve found that when I have a bit of trouble sleeping and wake up like a bear with a sore head that some simple belly breathing just as I’m winding down in the evening or first thing in the morning while i’m still laying on the bed helps me relax and calm my mind.

Laying down with one hand on your belly and the other on your chest take a deep breath through your nose. You should feel your belly push your hand out but your chest is still.

Now breathe out through pursed lips and feel the hand on your belly go in.

Repeat the sequence three or four times to begin with and increase the round of breath each day up to ten times.

This simple practice leaves me feeling more relaxed and helps calm my mind. What helps you to relax and clear your mind?
